Gavin Newsom signed SB1159 into law on 9/17/20, requiring California businesses to report ALL positive COVID cases to their Workers’ Compensation carrier, whether industrial or non-industrial. The changes apply retroactively to July 6, 2020 and remain in effect until January 1, 2023.
- Retroactive reporting: All positive COVID tests between 7/6/20 to 9/16/20 must be reported, whether it is an industrial or non-industrial COVID case.
- Current and ongoing reporting: All positive COVID cases, whether industrial or non-industrial, between 7/6/20 and 1/1/23 must be reported within 3 business days of knowledge.
